Cradle of Poland
One of the country's larger provinces, Greater Poland Province sits in the west-central part of the country. Often called the "Cradle of Poland," the province was an important hub in the nation's early years, when the provincial capital of Poznan, as well as the city of Gniezno, acted as centers of royal power until the mid-11th century. The province is heavily forested, with nearly a quarter of the area covered in dense woods. Hundreds of lakes in the northern and central parts of the province create stunning lake districts.
