4 days in Štanjel, Kobarid & Brda Itinerary

Perched on top of a hill in western Slovenia, the charming town of Stanjel appeals to various kinds of travelers.

Start off your visit on the 26th (Mon): indulge your senses at some of the top wineries in the area, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Church of St. Daniel, then admire the natural beauty at Ferrari Garden, and finally step into the grandiose world of Štanjel Castle.

Ljubljana to Štanjel is an approximately 1.5-hour car ride. Expect a bit warmer temperatures when traveling from Ljubljana in September; daily highs in Štanjel reach 28°C and lows reach 19°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 26th (Mon) to allow time to drive to Kobarid.

At the very heart of picturesque Soca Valley, Kobarid delivers some of the most stunning views of Slovenia's highest peaks, as well as a chance to enjoy some exciting alpine rivers.

Start off your visit on the 27th (Tue): explore the striking landscape at Tolmin Gorge, skim along the rocks with a canyoning and rapelling tour, then head outdoors with Outdoor Activities, and finally witness the site of a historic battle at Ravelnik Open Air Museum. Keep things going the next day: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Italian Charnel House, take in the dramatic scenery at Kozjak Waterfall, then take in the views from Bridge of Napoleon, and finally see the interesting displays at Kobarid Museum.

Getting from Štanjel to Kobarid by car takes about 1.5 hours. In September, Kobarid is slightly colder than Štanjel - with highs of 21°C and lows of 10°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 28th (Wed) so you can go by car to Kojsko.

Drive from Kobarid to Kojsko in an hour. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Traveling from Kobarid in September, expect Kojsko to be somewhat warmer, temps between 28°C and 17°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 29th (Thu) so you can go by car back home.
