Sydney to Toowoomba is an approximately 6.5-hour combination of flight and bus. You can also drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Sydney in April, Toowoomba is slightly colder at night with lows of 13°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 26th (Wed) so you can drive to Stanthorpe.
