Pamplona — 5 nights

Pamplona or Iruña is the historical capital city of Navarre, in Spain, and of the former Kingdom of Navarre. The city is famous worldwide for the running of the bulls during the San Fermín festival, which is held annually from July 6 to 14. Attractions like Room Escape Games and Catedral de Pamplona make great kid-friendly stops. Get out of town with these interesting Pamplona side-trips: Bardenas Reales (in Valtierra), Palacio Real de Olite (in Olite) and Bodegas Marques de Montecierzo (in Castejon). And it doesn't end there: make a trip to Plaza del Castillo, relax and rejuvenate at some of the best spas, pause for some photo ops at Monumento al Encierro, and walk around Parque de La Taconera.

Today known predominately for its internationally acclaimed wine production, Navarra is also home to the famous running of the bulls in Pamplona. Less well known is its portion of the St. James’ Way, in the southwest, along which monasteries, chapels, and quaint villages welcome travelers on this pilgrimage walk. Bordered to the north by the Pyrenees mountain range, Navarra boasts an attractive combination of forested peaks and lush valleys ideal for outdoor activity. As the capital city, Pamplona is the region’s cultural hub.
