The city of Ipoh, fourth-largest in Malaysia and historically a mining town, has recently seen a complete reinvention and resurgence as a burgeoning tourism destination, thanks in part to its significant heritage.
Start off your visit on the 19th (Mon): browse the exhibits of Miniature Wonders Art Gallery, appreciate the extensive heritage of Concubine Lane, then take in nature's colorful creations at Kek Lok Tong Cave Temple and Zen Gardens, and finally explore the fascinating underground world of Perak Tong Cave Temple.

Taiping — 1 night

The green city of Taiping remains one of the country's most innovative cities--it established Malaysia's first museum, first railway, and first newspaper.
Kick off your visit on the 20th (Tue): take an in-depth tour of Perak Museum, explore the different monuments and memorials at Taiping War Cemetery, take in the architecture and atmosphere at All Saints' Church, then see majestic marine mammals with Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve, and finally get your bearings at Taiping Clock Tower.

Alor Setar — 2 nights

The capital of the state of Kedah on the west coast of the Malaysian Peninsula, Alor Setar ranks as the tenth-largest city in Malaysia by population.
On the 21st (Wed), examine the collection at Kedah Paddy Museum, then take in the exciting artwork at Kedah Royal Museum, and then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Gunung Jerai.
