Chania Town — 2 nights

The place where Cretan and Venetian cultures merged in the 13th century, Chania Town attracts throngs of tourists with its well-preserved medieval harbor.

Rethymnon — 2 nights

Rethymnon combines the old-fashioned charm of a small town with proximity to long sandy beaches with all the modern conveniences usually found in big tourist resorts.
On the 5th (Wed), see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour, then look for all kinds of wild species at Gorge of Mili, and then take in the architecture and atmosphere at St. Nicholas Church. On your second day here, see Off-Road Tours, tour the pleasant surroundings at Damnoni Beach, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Plakias Beach.

You can drive from Chania Town to Rethymnon in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In October, plan for daily highs up to 28°C, and evening lows to 19°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 6th (Thu) so you can drive to Hersonissos.
