The capital of Lithuania, Vilnius, boasts an impressive medieval quarter--one of the continent's largest and a World Heritage Site with almost 2,000 historical buildings.
Step off the beaten path and head to Energy and Technology Museum and Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre. The adventure continues: take an in-depth tour of Gediminas Castle Tower and wander the streets of Vilnius Old Town.

Trakai — 2 nights

Lake Town

Just west of Vilnius lies the lake resort and historical city of Trakai, famed for its fairy tale-like cityscape and the eclectic mix of communities that built it.
Start off your visit on the 13th (Mon): see the interesting displays at Karaim Ethnographic exhibition, pause for some photo ops at Vytautas the Great Monument, and then admire the landmark architecture of Trakai Island Castle Museum. On the next day, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Trakai Orthodox Church, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Church of Nativity of Most Holy Mother of God, then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Kernave Mounds, and finally take an in-depth tour of Reconstruction of the 13th and 14th Century Craftsmen's Yards in Kernavė.

You can drive from Vilnius to Trakai in an hour. Other options are to take a train; or take a bus. In February, daytime highs in Trakai are 0°C, while nighttime lows are -5°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 14th (Tue) so you can go by car to Kaunas.

Kaunas — 2 nights

Situated between the Neris and Nemunas rivers, Kaunas is known for its old town, which, though smaller than the capital's, is in much better condition.
On the 15th (Wed), relax and rejuvenate at some of the best spas, test your problem-solving skills at popular escape rooms, steep yourself in history at Kaunas Town Hall, then wander the streets of Old Town, and finally explore the historical opulence of Kaunas Castle.
