Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape (UNESCO Heritage) covers three areas of a plateau of rocky boulders rising out of the semi-desert of central Azerbaijan, with an outstanding collection of more than 6,000 rock engravings bearing testimony to 40,000 years of rock art.Kick off your visit on the 4th (Wed): make a trip to Diri Baba Mausoleum. Keep things going the next day: don't miss a visit to Mud Volcanoes and then see the interesting displays at Gobustan State Reserve.

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to Gobustan is an approximately 7.5-hour flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 1 hour traveling from Riyadh to Gobustan. When traveling from Riyadh in January, plan for colder days and a bit cooler nights in Gobustan: temperatures range from 8°C by day to 2°C at night.
