Gobustan — 1 night

Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape (UNESCO Heritage) covers three areas of a plateau of rocky boulders rising out of the semi-desert of central Azerbaijan, with an outstanding collection of more than 6,000 rock engravings bearing testimony to 40,000 years of rock art.
Kick off your visit on the 4th (Wed): make a trip to Diri Baba Mausoleum. Keep things going the next day: don't miss a visit to Mud Volcanoes and then see the interesting displays at Gobustan State Reserve.

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to Gobustan is an approximately 7.5-hour flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 1 hour traveling from Riyadh to Gobustan. When traveling from Riyadh in January, plan for colder days and a bit cooler nights in Gobustan: temperatures range from 8°C by day to 2°C at night. On the 5th (Thu), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can drive to Gusar.

Azerbaijan's "northern gates" promise breathtaking Caucasus Mountain scenery, home to some of the country’s highest peaks, a classy ski resort, traditional rustic villages, and tasty Lezgi cuisine.
