Belize District contains the country's largest city and a string small rural towns, as well as wide swathes of lush tropical forest and marshland. Nature lovers will find plenty of things to do in Belize District--start with the large coral reef at Ambergris Caye. The district capital, though it continues to wrestle the twin demons of crime and poverty, exemplifies the nation's cultural diversity and offers a good selection of shops and restaurants.
