Grand Junction — 1 day

The city of Grand Junction is the home rule municipality that is the county seat and the most populous municipality of Mesa County, Colorado, United States. Start off your visit on the 30th (Sun): identify plant and animal life at Colorado National Monument and then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Grand Mesa.

San Diego to Grand Junction is an approximately 5.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of train and bus. Capitol Reef National Park takes its name from a particularly rugged and scenic section of the Waterpocket Fold, a geologic "wrinkle" stretching for 160 km (100 mi) along a dry plateau surrounded by white Navajo sandstone cliffs and domes, and red canyons, buttes, and rock bridges.
